Huawei is dropping the Ascend brand name for future devices

Ascend has essentially become synonymous with Huawei’s mobile devices, with dozens of the company’s products carrying the brand name. However, the Chinese electronics giant has decided to drop the Ascend name for its future devices in order to simplify the product names, make them more distinguishable, and strengthen the company’s own name.

After years of using the Ascend brand for it’s consumer mobile products resulting in 65 devices only in our database, it appears that Huawei has chosen to drop it for future products. The Ascend Mate7 flagship phablet may be the last to carry the historic badge. Instead, Huawei is opting for a more distinguishable naming convention, featuring the company’s increasingly reputable name and a letter-number combination. That would mean the successor to the Huawei Ascend P7 will be dubbed simply Huawei P8. The next generation top-of-the-line smartphone will reportedly pack a 5.2-inch screen in a sleek metal body. Powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 930 chipset with an octa-core CPU, the device is likely to be a serious alternative to offerings from more prominent manufacturers.
