OpenAI is starting beta testing of ChatGPT Connectors for Google Drive and Slack. Tibor Blaho shared the information on Monday, 17 March 2025. Back in November 2024, It was reported that OpenAI is working on the ChatGPT Connectors for Google Drive and Slack. From the Settings—> Knowledge section, Google Drive and Slack would be synced with ChatGPT.
Google Drive is a complex feature that requires significant training for employees to use properly. In contrast, the Slack connector is less complex and easy to understand from the employee’s point of view.
The X’s post read,
– Permissions are fully respected and kept continuously up to date, so employees will not be able to discover content via ChatGPT which they cannot access in Google Drive or Slack, with supported file types including Google Docs, Google Slides, PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and plain text files (images within files not supported)
- For Slack, public and private channels are supported (but not Slack Connect channels, individual/group DMs, or bot messages), and for spreadsheets there is partial support for Google Sheets and Excel workbooks (the model can search and “read” these but data analysis is not supported)
- The beta includes a feedback system where users can respond with thumbs up or thumbs down to answers and provide details on issues like missing sources, inaccuracies, or search problems, with ChatGPT admins reviewing this feedback before it’s sent to OpenAI.
According to Techcrunch the company documents, OpenAI plans to connect ChatGPT with other platforms in the future, such as Microsoft SharePoint and Box.
“This will allow employees using ChatGPT to easily make use of internal information similar to how they can use world knowledge via web search,” reads the document.
With these new integrations, OpenAI aims to enhance productivity by allowing businesses to streamline internal workflows. The company is also looking to expand its user base, with OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar predicting that OpenAI could generate $11 billion in revenue in 2025.
Companies interested in participating in the ChatGPT Connectors beta must provide 100 documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or Slack channel conversations, as per TechCrunch. While OpenAI has assured that data submitted under this program will not be used to train its AI models, it may serve as input for synthetic data generation, which could later influence model training. As OpenAI continues to roll out ChatGPT integrations, these developments signal a shift towards AI-powered workplace automation, potentially reshaping enterprise productivity and internal communication.
