The company announced Stargate UAE on Thursday, which will offer a 1GW data center cluster to Abu Dhabi. According to OpenAI, the 200MW project, which was created in collaboration with G42 Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and Softbank, should be operational by 2026. As per OpenAI, the Stargate UAE initiative seeks to deliver state-of-the-art AI computing power over a 2,000-mile area, possibly benefiting a vast region with sophisticated AI technologies and services

UAE Becomes First Nation to Roll Out Nationwide ChatGPT Access

OpenAI stated in its blog post.

“This is the first partnership under OpenAI countries, our new global initiative to help interested governments build sovereign AI capability in coordination with the U.S. government,”

Through this initiative, the UAE will be the first nation globally to provide universal access to ChatGPT. Making OpenAI’s technology accessible to the public across the entire nation.

Industry Leaders Back UAE’s AI Vision

Tech leaders are backing this project not just for its scale, but for its potential to reshape economies and innovation ecosystems. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said.

“AI is the most transformative force of our time,” “With Stargate UAE, we are building the AI infrastructure to power the country’s bold vision – to empower its people, grow its economy, and shape its future.”

Oracle and OpenAI will manage the 1GW compute cluster, while Cisco will supply the connectivity backbone. Nvidia chips will drive the computational capabilities of AI applications.

A Significant Advancement in the US-Middle East AI Collaboration

The launch of Stargate UAE comes as AI cooperation with the United States is accelerating. This effort is a response to recent diplomatic and technical collaborations announced during President Donald Trump’s Middle East visit, which underscored the region’s growing interest in AI-enhanced development.

The announcement from OpenAI

“underscores OpenAI’s dedication to enhancing U.S. infrastructure while assisting allies in accessing transformative AI responsibly and securely.”

Looking Ahead: A Global AI Blueprint

The UAE project represents the first international chapter of a larger, multibillion-dollar vision introduced earlier this year. Initially, OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank committed $100 billion for AI infrastructure development; over the next four years, an additional $500 billion is expected. With Stargate UAE officially launched, the Middle East is set to take a prominent position in the global AI landscape, fueled by advanced infrastructure, national capabilities, and collaborations between the public and private sectors
