Just a day after it was reported that Facebook and Google were abandoning their respective Internet-beaming satellite projects, SpaceX has requested permission from the FCC to begin testing its own such project. Elon Musk announced his plan to use small satellites to bring affordable Internet to the entire world back in January, and now it looks like his company is taking the first step towards actually making that happen.
