Spotify Audiobooks announced the launch of a new publishing program for Independent authors. It will help Spotify expand its audiobook collection. Spotify has partnered with various publishers and authors to produce hundreds of titles. Spotify Audiobooks has launched a new website that will accept submissions from authors for short-form stories. On this occasion,
Spotify Audiobooks Producer Leah Kleynhans said.
“Spotify Audiobooks is thrilled to be opening submissions for short-form content written by independent authors who are as passionate about audiobooks as we are,”
“We know Spotify users will love exploring these intense, bite-sized listens, and expanding our audiobook catalog in this way gives fans even more choice in the content they love to consume on our platform.”
This program is open to every author worldwide; however, the language has to be English. The Author should control the audio rights of the story they submit. For the selected submissions, Spotify will pay the author an advance and give royalties as well. Spotify will manage all aspects of production and distribution to major audiobook retailers. Spotify has provided all the guidelines to help with the submission. The main requirement is that the story be between 10,000 and 20,000 words. The genres should be romance, mystery/thriller, or sci-fi/fantasy. However, authors are encouraged to produce cross-genre works such as romantic, dark romance thrillers, mystery sci-fi, or psychological thrillers.
Spotify doesn’t allow erotica or children’s content submissions. Spotify, the leader in music streaming with 31.7 % shares, was divided into audiobooks back in 2021 when it bought digital audiobook distributor Findaway. As per Bookstat, Spotify had roughly 11% market share by Q4 2023. It has been a strong start for Spotify in audiobooks. With this new initiative, Spotify strives to become an even stronger player in the audiobook market.
