The Galaxy S6 may have a touch-based fingerprint sensor

Although last year’s Galaxy S5 came with a fingerprint sensor, users had to swipe their fingers across the sensor in order to get it to work whereas iPhone users just have to place their finger on the home button. The latter option is easier and is preferred by customers which is why it looks like Samsung may be using that method in the upcoming Galaxy S6.

Samsung Galaxy S5 came with a fingerprint sensor but it was different from the one you would find on an iPhone. Users needed to swipe their finger from the top to the bottom of the home button just to get their fingerprint picked up. On the iPhone one simply needs to put their finger down on the home button for the print to be registered. The latter is obviously much easier and it looks like Samsung is going with a touch based fingerprint sensor for Galaxy S6. It was actually reported in January that Samsung is not going to use a swipe based fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S6 and instead its going to opt for the touch based one. A render of the device that appeared online today courtesy of T-Mobile shows a nominally taller home button which is now being taken as an indication that the touch based fingerprint sensor has indeed been embedded in the home button.
