The HTC Desire 516 smartphone is coming to Europe

1 min read

A few months ago, HTC announced the HTC Desire 516. Unlike the HTC One series of smartphones, the HTC Desire lineup tends to be more of a low-mid range offering, which is great for customers who are shopping on a budget. That being said, the Desire 516 appeared to be limited to the Chinese market at the start, but the good news is that it looks like it will soon start making its way to Europe. According to HTC Germany, the company has announced that the HTC Desire 516 will soon make its way across Europe in August, starting with countries such as Austria and Switzerland. The handset will be priced at €199 unlocked, which is roughly $270 when converted, making it a pretty value-for-money purchase.

The HTC Desire 516 is a smartphone that we first saw in China, where it was officially launched back in March. Now, HTC announced that the handset would also be available in Europe. Starting early August, the Desire 516 will be sold in Austria and Switzerland. HTC will ask €199 (about $270) for the new device, offering it unlocked. As you’d imagine, we’re not dealing with a high-end smartphone here. The new Desire is a dual SIM handset that offers a 5-inch qHD (540 x 960) display, a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of expandable memory. Sadly, HTC didn’t manage to put Android KitKat on board, so the 516 runs Android Jelly Bean (which means Sense 6.0 UI is also out of the question). The Desire 516 is the second dual SIM smartphone that HTC announces in Europe this week, after the high-end One M8 Dual. Apart from being released in China and coming soon to Austria and Switzerland, the HTC Desire 516 is also available in India. We don’t know if the handset will be released in other markets.
