Samsung might be launching a curved-screen version of the Galaxy Note 4

Early rumored specs on the Galaxy Note 4 already have us hot and bothered, but now details have come out suggesting there might actually two versions Samsung’s next phablet. An executive at one of Samsung’s supplier partners confirmed with The Korea Times that the Galaxy Note 4 would come with a curved screen and another model with a regular flat screen. Both devices will also purported be announced at IFA 2014, which takes place from September 5 to 10 in Berlin, Germany. Thus far, early reports pointed to the handset getting a screen with curved edges like the Galaxy Round. Now this latest report states that the curved phablets will be a “niche” device only available in a limited number of unnamed markets.

Almost like clockwork, Samsung is expected introduce its latest phablet at the annual IFA trade show in early September. What’s more, the Korean giant is also rumored to be cooking up a Google Glasscompetitor for the event. According to a new Korea Times report, Samsung is alleged to have two versions of the Galaxy Note 4 on deck. One model, aimed at mass market adoption, should employ the usual flat screen, while a more niche version will feature a curved OLED display. The Galaxy Note 4 is also rumored to have a QHD (2560×1440) display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor, and a 16-megapixel camera. Assuming Samsung sticks to its game plan, we might also see a variant with its own Exynos CPU. In addition to the new smartphone, Samsung could also bring a handful of new wearables to the show off at the conference. The one that that will likely get the most buzz is a so-called Gear Glass which takes aim at Google Glass. Also on the cards for this fall may be the third generation of Samsung smartwatches. Various chatter along the way inlcudes word of a SIM-enabled version of the Gear 2, or “Gear Solo,” as well as a smart wrist solution based off of Android Wear. IFA kicks off September 5, but we should look for Samsung to hold its own Unpacked event in the days leading up to the conference.
