Buzzfeed has big plans for the world of tech news
B

For those of you who aren’t aware, Buzzfeed is a ridiculously popular Internet media company that reports on a variety of topics and is known for its use of viral content. Now the website wants to begin a serious expansion into the world of tech news by building a team of Silicon Valley reporters. Buzzfeed doesn’t just want to enter the field, however, it wants to change the way we talk about technology.

Buzzfeed is building out a team of Silicon Valley reporters in an attempt to change the way we talk about tech. After scooping up Wired’s Mat Honan to head up its new San Francisco bureau, Buzzfeed is announcing today a slew of new hires as it forays into reporting on web culture. Among these is John Paczkowski, former deputy managing editor at Re/code known for his pithy scoops and commentary. When Re/code founder Kara Swisher reported on Honan’s new editorial role at Buzzfeed, she also noted that the media outlet was looking to poach certain Re/code reporters — a challenge she welcomed. Joining Paczkowski are former New York Times Dealbook reporter William Alden, Nieman Journalism Lab reporter Caroline O’Donovan, and Nicole Nguyen, assistant tech editor at Popsugar. Though Nguyen will be operating out of the San Francisco office, she will report to Buzzfeed Life editorial director Peggy Wang.
