According to reports, BYD unveiled a new electric car platform that can charge vehicles at up to 1,000 kW, which is twice as fast as Tesla’s most recent 500 kW superchargers Before reducing gains to 3.2%, shares increased as high as 6.0% to a record HK$408.80 ($52.61) early Tuesday. The innovation, which enables vehicles to travel a distance of $400 (249 miles) on a five-minute charge, marks a sea change in the EV industry.

Super E-Platform and Vehicle Compatibility

The Chinese carmaker’s “super e-platform” aims to reduce charging times to levels comparable to filling up a petrol tank, addressing a significant concern among EV customers. The first models to use this innovation are the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, which start at 270,000 yuan ($37,328.91). Thus, current EV charging facilities might be nearly tripled in frequency by BYD’s Super E-Platform.

Fast-Charging Infrastructure Expansion Across China

According to BYD, users will just need five minutes to charge a vehicle with a range of 250 miles. If such a degree of charge ever made it to our coastlines, it would fundamentally alter the way people interact at stations. Owners of BYD devices have previously relied on external charging stations operated by competitors. To gain an early foothold in the industry, Tesla has been installing superchargers in China since 2014. As prices rise, high-speed charging infrastructure will grow increasingly crucial to accelerating the adoption of EVs.

Rising Competition with Tesla in the EV Market

Whether BYD cars can ever be marketed in the US is uncertain because of the upcoming 25% tariff that will cut off the US from the rest of the world market.
