Motorola’s first post-acquisition products will be launching this summer

It’s been almost a year since Lenovo acquired Motorola from Google, which means it’s about time we start seeing some new Motorola products hitting the market. According to Lenovo chairman and chief executive, Yang Yuanqing, that’s exactly what’s going to happen this summer. Speaking at Lenovo’s TechWorld event in Beijing, Yuanqing hinted that some “exciting products” will be coming from Motorola this year, including smartphones and smartwatches.

Lenovo could launch a new Motorola smartphone as soon as the summer, in its first major release since it acquired the mobile phone maker from Google in October 2014, according to the company’s chairman and chief executive, Yang Yuanqing. Speaking to The Telegraph at the company’s TechWorld event in Beijing, Mr Yanqing said that Motorola fans can look forward to some “exciting products” from the company later this year. “We have many new models in development with the Moto brands,” he said, “so you may see in summer us launching some very exciting products, including phones and watches.” Lenovo has expressed its intention to continue using the Motorola brand, alongside its own, in the smartphone market. Motorola is better known in a lot of Western countries, such as the US and Europe, whereas the Lenovo brand has more resonance in Asia. “Moto and Lenovo have different brand positions, so we try to leverage these two brands to maximise our marketshare in a particular market,” said Liu Jun, president of Lenovo’s mobile business group.
