WhatsApp Launches New Status Save Feature for Android!

With the latest beta update 2.25.7.8 for Android, WhatsAap has launched a new feature to secure status media. With this feature, now users will be able to save their status directly to their gallery within 24 hours. The primary goal of this feature seems to safeguard media that might be accidently deleted from the gallery after being posted as a status; ensuring users’ don’t lose important media.

User-friendly Policy of WhatsAap

Although it is a rare incident that an image or video is being deleted from the user’s gallery after being uploaded as a status, this new feature addresses the potential issue by providing users with a 24 hour window to recover their media. This proactive approach highlights the customer-centric and user-friendly policy of WhatsAap.

Secure Data Policy of WhatsAap

Also considering the secure data policy of WhatsAap, this new feature is designed with clear limitations.  It only allows users to save media from their own status updates, preventing viewers from saving the same content to their galleries. This restriction will ensure that shared media remains under the control of the original uploader.

Two Easy Steps

The steps for saving media from status are also very simple and straightforward. Users just have to go to ‘My Status’, open the overflow menu and select the ‘Save’ option.

Android 2.25.7.8 is Rolling Out

Currently, this feature is available to some beta testers who have updated their WhatsApp via Google Play Store. However, this feature is expected to expand gradually over the coming weeks, ensuring a smooth and stable implementation of WhatsAap new features.

Notably, in February 2025, WhatsApp came up with many features, enhancing the message application with every single update. The list is long, including;

  1. Colorful Chat Themes: Users can apply colorful themes to the chat screen. Twenty color options and twenty new wallpapers are available.
  2. Unread Chat Counters: Users can see a count of unread messages in their specific filters
  3. Playback Speed in Videos: Yes, like YouTube, you can now speed up your video to 1.5x and 2x, which is quite handy for boring content.
  4. Meta AI Home Screen Widget: This is only available on Android. Users can put their favorite bot as a widget on their home screen, and Voila!
  5. WhatsApp Message Threads Feature: This new addition allows users to reply to specific messages in an organized thread, improving conversation clarity and reducing clutter in group chats.

With over 2.5 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp has evolved since 2009 from an instant messaging service to a media-sharing and status-uploading app. Since then, the number of users has grown along with its usage for business purposes. It is now to be seen how this new feature to save statuses will further facilitate its users.
