From June 9 to June 13, Apple will hold its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which will include both online sessions and a unique in-person event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The event will begin with a keynote on  June 9 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, where the company is expected to announce major updates to its software platforms.

Major Software Announcements Expected

Apple will release upgrades for all of its operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, as is customary. However, more than just standard improvements are anticipated this year. Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign to achieve a more unified visual experience across all devices.  To bring the appearance and feel of other platforms into line with the style of VisionOS, the operating system for Apple’s Vision Pro headset, new icons, menus, and navigation functions could be added.

Possible Changes to Version Naming

A significant change to consider is with respect to Apple’s version numbering scheme. Instead of the customary incremental updates indicative of iOS 19 or iPadOS 19, the company may opt for a more consistent and simple naming scheme, basically, iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26; thereby instilling uniformity across product lines while pointing to a new chapter in Apple’s software development. Tools for Developers and the Integration of AI

Better developer tools, such as a new feature in Apple’s programming suite Xcode, may be introduced at this year’s WWDC.  According to reports, the business is collaborating with Anthropic to create a coding helper that streamlines development procedures.

 If verified, this action demonstrates Apple’s commitment to helping its developer community by updating processes and staying up to date with new developments in software development tools.

 Developers Are Not the Only Users of WWDC

Despite being focused on Apple’s developer community, WWDC is extremely pertinent to all Apple consumers. The updates announced during the keynote will soon roll out to millions of devices around the world, improving performance, adding new features, and extending the usability of existing products.

The topic of Apple Intelligence is expected to feature prominently during the event. According to Francisco Jeronimo, VP of Devices at IDC,

 “I’m looking forward to seeing more details about Apple Intelligence and the new features that will become available. This is critical for Apple, as Google, Gemini, and the Android vendors have taken significant steps forward with their AI offerings.”

The event is free to attend online for developers globally. Those selected to attend in person at Apple Park had to apply earlier this year. Throughout the week, Apple will host interactive labs, coding sessions, and workshops to help developers adapt to the upcoming changes and optimize their apps for the new software environment.
