Elon Musk takes decisive action by removing Tesla’s top sales executive, Omead Afshar, as the EV giant struggles with declining profits and leadership transitions.

According to reports, Elon Musk has also dismissed Omead Afshar, Tesla’s vice president who handles the North American and European operations in regards to sales and manufacturing. This move is quite notable because Afshar was considered a close associate of Musk at the enterprise. Although neither Musk, Tesla, nor Afshar has spoken publicly, the initial report on this news came in a Bloomberg article with confirmation in Forbes.

However, Afshar has been dismissed as the company faces increased instability in Tesla. Another critical hiccup the company has encountered is the fact that 2024 was the first year since Tesla commenced mass production of electric vehicles, during which it sold fewer cars than in the previous years. The poor sales life died through half of 2025, and earnings fell to a lower point. The number of profits made by Tesla in the first quarter was also 71% lower than what it made last year during the same period.

Afshar celebrated the partial rollout of the Tesla Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, just a few days before he was fired. He spoke in his post on X, formerly Twitter, gave praise words to Musk and said it was a historical moment. His departure time is even more curious. Internally, Afshar was not a very visible person, but his power was enormous. He came to Tesla in 2017 and has climbed up the stepping stone to become the chairman after operating side by side with Musk at the office of the CEO. He was also instrumental in the construction of the huge Tesla factory located in Austin.

Nevertheless, his path has not been smooth sailing. Afshar was also looked into internally in the year 2022 allegations of purchasing special materials in support of a secret glass construction initiative associated with Musk. This investigation later came to the interest of the Department of Justice and SEC, which caused the investigations to be broadened in 2023. Notwithstanding the unrest, Musk nevertheless re-hired and promoted him later in 2024, particularly after one of the company executives, Tom Zhu, also moved back to China.

The resignation of Afshar is not the only shake-up. Jenna Ferrua, the head of HR in North America, is also said to have quit the Tesla company. The motive behind these sudden exits are  not very clear, but it contributes to the turbulence that Tesla is going through. With the company about to announce its delivery data worldwide in Q2 next week and financial results in mid-July, the world will be watching how Musk will guide Tesla out of this crunch period.

Omead Afshar, Tesla’s vice president in charge of sales and manufacturing in North America and Europe, has reportedly been fired by CEO Elon Musk, according to Forbes.
