Hyundai Motor Group and Boston Dynamics, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based provider of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), recently announced that they have embarked on a new chapter in their partnership to boost manufacturing capacity, broaden cooperation to produce more robots, and contribute to the development of a thriving robotics ecosystem in the United States.
Hyundai has revealed aspirations to spend $21 billion in the US over the next three years, with $6 billion going toward collaborations and future industry investments. As a benefit, Boston Dynamics intends to employ Hyundai’s funding to broaden its robotics ecological services. Additionally, Hyundai will grow to be Boston Dynamics’ largest client. In the future, the businesses might also provide industrial solutions that combine robotics, EVs, and trucks.
Spot quadruped robots are already used by Hyundai at its plants for predictive maintenance and industrial inspection.
In the future, the business plans to install Atlas humanoid robots throughout its factories.
1. Hyundai Backs PhysAI
“The Hyundai Motor Company’s goal will be achieved in large part thanks to Boston Dynamics and robotics AI,” Chang stated. “Humanoid robots and physical AI will revolutionize our business environment.” By working together, we will accelerate the process of becoming the robotics industry leader.
2. Commercialization Support Collaboration
According to Goldman Sachs, the demand for humanoid robotics is expected to reach over $38 billion by 2035. Rapid action is required to handle robot fabrication and creation as the robotics industry as a whole expands. Additionally, it is important to better understand how Boston Dynamics’ robots may facilitate greater efficiency and effectiveness in areas where Hyundai’s manufacturing needs overlap.
3. Spot, Atlas Join Metaplant
The spot in HMGMA’s welder shop has been used for external quality control inspections. In the future, HMGMA will also use Atlas electric humanoid machines. According to Boston Dynamics, the town hall’s recurring theme of cooperation and partnership is in line with its history of working with organizations and researchers to create robots. In an effort to continuously develop and enhance robots, Boston Dynamics recently announced new collaborations with NVIDIA, Google Deepmind, the Toyota Research Institute, and sister business the Robotics and AI Institute.
