Spotify was hit by a huge outage on Wednesday, leaving users around the world frustrated. Many were logged out of their accounts and couldn’t log back in. Others faced problems like the homepage not loading and the search function not working.
Details of the Outage:
- Over 5,000 Spotify users reported issues through DownDetector, a platform that tracks real-time outages.
- The problems began at around 9:40 AM (UK time).
- Users took to social media to share their frustrations. One user posted, “Is spotifyDown? I can listen to music but cannot search for anything, not even the homepage is loading up.” Another commented, “Spotify is down? Just logged me out just as Jessie Ware was playing.” A third said, “Spotify is down for the whole world. I almost got a heart attack thinking it was just me.”
Spotify’s Response:
- At the time of reporting, Spotify had not provided an official statement explaining the cause of the outage.
- However, the Spotify support account on X (formerly Twitter) suggested a troubleshooting method, advising users to delete and reinstall the app in hopes of resolving the issue.
Quick Fixes for Affected Users
If you’re having trouble with Spotify, here are some tips:
- Restart the App: Close and reopen Spotify to see if the problem resolves itself.
- Clear Cache: In the app settings clear the cache to improve performance.
- Reinstall the App: Delete the app and reinstall it to fix any bugs.
- Check Your Internet Connection: Ensure your connection is stable and fast enough for streaming.
- Try Another Device: If the issue persists, try logging into your account on a different device or using Spotify Web Player.
Past Outages:
- That was not the first such glitch in the organization. In September, streaming, playlists, and playback disruptions had been experienced by more than 40,000 users, which were addressed within three hours. However, Spotify did not explain the cause then.
- Spotify once again faced a multi-hour outage in April 2023, which brought down a number of its functions including support for connected devices such as Sonos speakers.
Spotify Rejects Ad Rumors:
Recently, Spotify has broken silence on rumors that have long surrounded the inclusion of advertisements in its premium subscription tier. There were said to be some users who reported sounds of ads being played while listening to music, which sparked speculation of Spotify trying to commercialize its premium service.
In response, Spotify clarified, saying,
“There is a rumor circulating that Spotify is putting ads into premium music listening. This rumor is false. Premium music listening is and will remain ad-free.
