How the AI Fear & Greed Index is calculated
Published score is a structured linear combination of four sub-indices: Market Momentum 35% (AI coverage-basket momentum, capex, capital-flow breadth, technical breadth, options crowding), Ecosystem Supply 25% (log-scaled compute deflation, AI adoption, ecosystem breadth), Macro Liquidity 20% (global liquidity, rates, inflation, cross-asset pressure), and Attention Sentiment 20% (quote demand, news sentiment, catalysts and weekly tape). Each component is converted to a 0-100 z-score percentile against TECHi methodology priors; stale inputs decay toward 50, fully refreshing components are excluded, and their weight is redistributed across active components. The final headline score applies a freshness confidence multiplier to the active score deviation from neutral.
Every input links to its source. Stale or missing feeds are automatically down-weighted, and the score is pulled toward neutral when live coverage is low — so the number reflects how much real data is actually behind it.

AI Fear & Greed Index — FAQ
What is the AI Fear & Greed Index?+
The AI Fear & Greed Index is a 0–100 gauge of investor sentiment toward the AI economy. A low score means fear — capital is pulling back; a high score means greed — capital, attention, and adoption are accelerating. It blends 13 weighted, source-linked signals (AI-stock momentum, capex, compute costs, enterprise adoption, quote-page demand, news sentiment, and macro pressure) into one number, refreshed hourly.
Is the AI market in fear or greed right now?+
Right now the index reads 51 out of 100, which is "Neutral". AI markets are roughly neutral — bullish and bearish forces are balanced, with no clear sentiment extreme right now.
How is the AI Fear & Greed Index calculated?+
Each of the 13 components is scored 0–100, normalised against its own history (a z-score percentile), then combined by weight into a composite. Stale or missing feeds are down-weighted and the headline score is pulled toward neutral (50) when live coverage is low, so the number honestly reflects how much current data supports it.
How is it different from the Crypto Fear & Greed Index?+
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index by Alternative.me measures Bitcoin sentiment, driven mostly by price, volatility, and social volume, and updates about once a day. TECHi's index measures the AI economy instead — AI-stock breadth, AI capex, compute (token) costs, enterprise adoption, and macro liquidity — updates hourly, and links every input to its source.
How often is the index updated?+
The index recomputes every hour. The page shows the time of the last update, an auto-refresh countdown to the next one, and a manual refresh button, and you can pull the latest reading anytime from the public JSON API.
How should I use the score?+
Treat it as market-mood context, not a buy or sell signal. Extreme fear has historically clustered near washout lows and extreme greed near frothy tops, but the index is a dashboard for AI-stock research, earnings, and risk appetite — it is not investment advice.
