On May 9, OpenAI announced integrating ChatGPT Deep Research with GitHub. The feature is currently rolled out in beta and available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users.
How to Link GitHub with ChatGPT?
OpenAI provided simple steps to connect GitHub with ChatGPT Deep Research
- Users need to navigate to the ChatGPT sidebar and click on their name or profile. Select ‘Settings’ and go to ‘Beta features.’ There, they can toggle “Deep Research” to enable the feature.
- Once Deep Research is enabled, users need to click the paperclip icon in a conversation window and choose ‘GitHub’ to initiate a repository connection.
- Users can decide which repositories to share. Access to repositories can be revoked anytime via GitHub settings or directly from the ChatGPT app.
OpenAI Getting Access to Repositories
After integrating the ChatGPT Deep Research account with GitHub, it will enable OpenAI to access users’ GitHub repositories with their consent. Once connected, developers can ask ChatGPT to read, summarize, and explain complex codebases. The feature is designed to improve the efficiency of developers and reduce the time spent navigating large code projects. It will also improve collaboration between human programmers and AI.
Expanding ChatGPT for Technical Users
OpenAI has made this advancement as a part of its broader push to turn ChatGPT into a multipurpose AI assistant for technical users. By expanding beyond general knowledge tasks into specialized programming support, OpenAI aims to make software development more accessible and efficient.
