Eureka Labs

Andrej Karpathy's AI-native school behind LLM101n and nanochat — paused since his move to Anthropic's pretraining team.

Eureka Labs is Andrej Karpathy's attempt to rebuild technical education around AI teaching assistants. Its flagship course, LLM101n, walks students through building a working language model end to end in Python, C, and CUDA across 17 chapters; its capstone, nanochat, trains a ChatGPT-style model on a single 8xH100 node for about $100 at the smallest tier and under $1,000 for the full pipeline. Founded in 2024, the company never charged for anything — its output shipped as free repositories. In May 2026 Karpathy joined Anthropic's pretraining team and paused Eureka Labs, calling it a deferral, not a closure.
