Enterprise AI and Data Platform
Scale AI
Scale AI sells data labeling and model evals; Meta bought 49% for about $14B and hired away its founder.
The June 2025 Meta deal split Scale AI's story in two. Meta paid roughly $14B for a 49% stake at a $29B valuation, and founder Alexandr Wang left with a group of employees to run Meta's superintelligence effort, leaving Jason Droege as CEO. Google, OpenAI, and xAI then cut or paused their labeling contracts over confidentiality concerns — a predictable outcome of selling half the company to their fiercest rival. Founded in 2016, Scale pivoted its data-engine, evaluation, and government business (including defense work) hard toward enterprises, and reportedly posted a record year at a $1B+ revenue run rate.
