As Trump tightens Uncle Sam’s purse strings with Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, Google stepped into the national cost-cutting drive by offering significant discounts on its business app packages. For a long time, Microsoft maintained its monopoly on the government software market.

According to Reuters, Google will be giving a 71% discount to the US Federal Agencies under its agreement with the US General Services Administration (GSA). After this discount, the US will be generating $2 billion in cost savings for federal agencies if there is government-wide adoption. The discounts will be valid till September 30, this year.

Previously, lower discounts were available by federal agencies through separate agreements. About this agreement, GSA gave a statement

“The Workspace agreement marks a step forward in GSA’s work with Google and other companies to create cost savings for the federal government,”

Interestingly, GSA was among the first federal agencies targeted by DOGE in its layoff drive.

Trump’s Cost-Cutting Drive

As Trump took the Oval Office for his second term, he appointed Elon Musk as a special government employee for 130 days at DOGE. This position was offered by the Trump administration to spearhead the government’s cost-cutting efforts. Through this drive, Musk planned to oversee $1 trillion deficit reduction. Recently, the tech giant announced that it will retire in May. He said

“I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion within that time frame’’.
