GPS Navigation Goes Small Scale

The world is getting smaller, but not fast enough for Nokia.

The Finnish tech giant has been working on small scale GPS technology it calls ‘Location Indoors’. While it may seem like a step backwards, the tech is actually quite innovative.

Exhibitions and conferences are one possible focus for this invention. The video above demos one possible use, with four people being tracked around the expo floor.

The technology isn’t new, but it looks like the tech may have found widespread acceptance and might be upon us shortly.

Imagine grabbing a small handheld device to navigate your way around a hospital. Or slipping one of these into your husband’s pocket at the mall before he disappears to the gadget store.

The tech evens kicks in on a smaller scale. Items such as glasses, keys and wallets can contain built in low power RFID tags so your home’s built in computer system can tell you where they are when you lose them.

This is a really interesting technology and the potential uses are infinite. The only problem? It probably only runs on Nokia devices.
