Scrolling Netflix for hours just to watch the movie or series that you have already seen? Or trying to find a movie that fits your mood by titles, genres, or actor names and still not getting what you want? Well, you are not the only one to do the same.

Imagine telling Netflix how you are feeling or what you want. For example, show me an intense series with a plot twist, but it must not be scary. It feels like sci-fi, but you won’t be surprised when Black Mirror gets its inspiration for its future episodes from the very platform it is aired on.

You’d be thrilled to know that Netflix is testing an AI search engine powered by OpenAI (the mastermind behind ChatGPT). There is little time left when you’ll just say how you feel, and AI will do the work for you.

Testing The Waters

Right now, only a lucky group of people who live in New Zealand or Australia and use iOS devices can use Netflix’s latest AI tool. And you also have to opt in to get the tool. Netflix wants to get feedback from its eager users before making it available publicly.

There is still a piece of good news for you. Netflix is planning to expand its horizons, and the features will be available soon in other countries, including the U.S.

However, it is not the first time that Netflix used artificial intelligence. Netflix has been using AI to power its suggestions, and you get recommendations based on what you binge-watched and what you skipped.

But now Netflix is moving a step ahead in the race. You’ll be able to search smarter, not just by titles or actors, but by your mood as well. Even if you are in an “I don’t know what I want” mood, it will have your back.

AI Won’t Replace Creativity

You can’t dare to deny that AI is shaking the entertainment world. However, Netflix is keeping it cool and clear. According to Netflix, this new AI tool is just to improve the user experience, and they won’t be cutting off screenwriters, filmmakers, or writers.

For now, if you live in New Zealand or Australia and have an iOS phone, then you can be a part of the test group. For the rest of us, the wave may hit us soon.
