The letters, categories, or grid logic that made this one tricky.
What made this one tricky:
The yellow group was built around light, see-through fabric descriptions: GAUZY, GOSSAMER, SHEER, and THIN. Green gathered verbs for speaking: EXPRESS, STATE, UTTER, and VOICE. Blue used harder-edged verbs for destroying something: GUT, LEVEL, TOTAL, and TRASH. Purple was the wordplay set, with CORE, POP, STEP, and WAVE all working as genre suffixes.

The clean solve path was to separate the direct synonym groups before touching the music endings. SHEER and GAUZY pointed strongly to yellow, while UTTER and VOICE made green easier to confirm.
The groups were TRANSLUCENT, AS FABRIC; SPEAK; DEMOLISH; and MUSIC GENRE SUFFIXES.
The purple group was the trickiest because CORE, POP, STEP, and WAVE only click when read as music-genre endings.
