Apple Airlifted $2 Billion Worth of iPhones from India in One Month

Apple Airlifts $2 Billion Worth of iPhones from India Amid Trump Tariff Pressure

Apple’s suppliers in India, Foxconn and Tata Electronics, shipped nearly $2 billion worth of iPhones to the United States in March. This is Apple’s highest-ever monthly export from India. The company used air cargo to avoid delays and beat the deadline for Trump’s upcoming tariffs.

Foxconn and Tata Hit Record Exports

Foxconn exported iPhones worth $1.31 billion in March alone equal to January and February combined. Their shipments included iPhone 13, 14, 16, and 16e models. So far this year, Foxconn has shipped $5.3 billion worth of iPhones from India to the U.S. Tata Electronics also saw strong numbers, exporting $612 million worth of iPhones in March a 63% increase from the previous month. Their exports included iPhone 15 and 16 models.

All shipments were flown from Chennai Air Cargo terminal and delivered to cities like Los Angeles, New York, and mainly Chicago.

Tariffs, Fast Shipping and Clearance Speed-Up

To avoid Trump’s new import taxes, Apple rushed to move stock before duties kicked in. In April, the U.S. applied a 26% tariff on imports from India, still much lower than the 100%+ on goods from China. While most tariffs are now paused, China remains under full duties. To make things even faster, Apple convinced Indian officials to reduce customs clearance time at Chennai airport from 30 hours to just 6 hours.

Apple, Foxconn and Tata haven’t commented officially. Reuters is the first to report this detailed data.
