Oliver Zipse, CEO of German carmaker BMW, announced at the Shanghai auto show on Wednesday that the company will begin using artificial intelligence from Chinese startup DeepSeek in its new vehicles in China later this year. Previously, BMW was also found collaborating with Alibaba to create an AI engine.
Important developments in AI are taking place here. In China, we are fortifying our AI collaborations for incorporation into our automobiles," he stated.
"Starting later this year, we will integrate AI integration from DeepSeek in our new vehicles in China".
The publication of DeepSeek's R1 model earlier this year, which demonstrated that Beijing maintained its competitiveness in AI despite not having the benefit of the most cutting-edge AI chips, also brought further attention to China's AI capabilities.
Reuters stated that China has stringent regulations pertaining to AI and data assurances, and in order for international corporations to adhere to data and cybersecurity legislation, they must collaborate with local enterprises. In order to introduce AI capabilities on its smartphones in China, Apple has been noticed forming alliances with a number of internet behemoths, including Alibaba.
