Users of Chrome and Edge have been seriously cautioned because AI-powered browser agents are posing a great security threat. These browser-based AI applications, which aim at higher productivity achieved through the automation of tasks, are now found to be lacking in security awareness. According to developers of the alert that goes under the name of SquareX, which operates in the sphere of cybersecurity, these agents act as toddlers within the digital environment since they execute commands but have no knowledge of possible threats.
The main problem lies in the fact that AI agents that are currently utilized in 79% of organizations, have the same privileges as the user and yet cannot develop a sense of suspicious activity. They are not able to detect phoney URLs, phishing sites, and unauthorized requests to access their permission, factors which a human being could detect. Google advises that you set on its Enhanced Safe Browsing feature as it provides a higher degree of protection than rudimentary protections and is able to inform users about new and recently discovered threats. Microsoft Edge is no exception, and one also gets similar security layers, only that they must be enabled, particularly when using AI agents.
The productivity growth that accompanies the application of AI tools is inspiring, but the threats that this tool brings about are not completely understood yet. The demand is increasingly pressing for smarter security and privacy features as they get deeply integrated into daily operations. Such controls are necessary, as otherwise, using AI might be one of the most expensive errors the company will ever make.
A new warning has just been issued for Chrome and Edge users, as the feared tidal wave of AI attacks takes on an alarming new dimension. It turns out that the latest buzz around agentic AI might be a security nightmare suddenly come true.
