Though the Augmented Reality enthusiasts have yet to wait for the most anticipated AR smart glasses, Orion, Meta will be launching the first consumer-based smart glasses, Hypernova, this year. These AR glasses are designed as an alternative to smartphones. The smart glasses may cost over $1000. Some versions may cost up to $13,000 to $14,000.  The product is expected to launch at the annual Meta Connect conference.

Mini Screen

The AR glasses are expected to be launched with mini screens and a minuscule monocular panel in the right-hand lens. This panel will allow users to view notifications from their phones, access photos, and see directions from Google Maps.

Compared to Ray-Ban, which uses physical button controls to access the built-in camera for photos and videos, this new feature in Hypernova makes it more feasible and attractive for buyers.

Larger Sensors

These glasses are also expected to include larger sensors that can shoot higher-quality photos up to a 12MP camera sensor on Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.

On-board Speakers

Hypernova is also expected to include on-board speakers like Ray Ban, which users can control by sliding their fingers along the capacitive sensor on the right earpiece.

Home Screen

The AR glasses Hypernova are expected to have their home screen where users can access an app drawer of horizontal icons.

It is also expected to include separate apps for pictures and maps.

Pricing

Ray Ban smart glasses made a big hit in the AR industry, especially due to their economical price of $300, which varied up to $380. However, the expected high cost of Hypernova will make the buyers think twice before buying this newly launched product.

Concerns over Usability

Meta relied on its Meta View app for Ray Ban, and it is expected that this new AR device, Hypernova, will also be using the same software. However, analysts are skeptical about the usability of the app as it was criticised for being complicated. Moreover, this app had a precedent of functional difficulty with iOS. With such a huge price, the users will think twice before buying this device.

Meta’s AI Wearables

In February, Meta was reported to launch six new mixed reality devices, according to a leaked memo. The company was also reported to be working on two Quest headsets. With this latest update on AR smart glasses Hypernova, it is expected that the other products will also be unveiled soon.
