Exciting news from Moonvalley! This Los Angeles-based AI startup has just secured $43 million in fresh funding, according to a recent SEC filing. The company is quickly becoming a major player in the AI video creation space. This new investment comes right after the launch of Moonvalley’s first AI video model, Marey. Created with the help of the animation studio Asteria, Marey stands out by allowing users to have precise control over camera angles and motion, offering a more customizable experience compared to other tools. It can generate high-definition videos up to 30 seconds long, and creators are already praising its flexibility and user-friendly features.

As per the recent SEC filing, 11 investors took part in this round, but their names haven’t been shared yet. A Moonvalley spokesperson told TechCrunch that

“the filing does not dictate the total funding number and the actual number will be formalized and announced in the coming weeks.”

Moonvalley had already raised $70 million earlier from big investors like General Catalyst Khosla Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners.

Standing Out in a Crowded Market

There are many AI video startups now such as Runway, Luma, OpenAI and Google. Most tools are starting to feel the same and many use public or copyrighted videos to train their models. Moonvalley wants to do things differently.

Legal and Ethical Approach

Moonvalley says Marey is safer legally. The company is working with partners to buy licensed video content, just like Adobe does with Adobe Stock. This helps avoid copyright issues. They also say creators will be able to remove their content from the model, users can delete their data any time and an indemnity policy will protect customers from legal problems. A 2024 study by the Animation Guild warns that AI could impact over 100,000 U.S. film, TV, and animation jobs by 2026. Moonvalley says it wants to build AI tools that respect artists and support fair use.

Keeping the Technology Safe

Moonvalley’s tools will have strict safety measures in place. Like OpenAI’s Sora, their model will block inappropriate content and will not allow the creation of videos with real people or celebrities. These steps show that Moonvalley is focused on creating AI that is responsible and friendly to creators. With strong support from investors and a clear vision of innovation and honesty, Moonvalley is not just following the AI trend. It’s helping shape where AI is headed.
